This Saturday Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (6-1 4KO’s) will make the first defence of his WBO Super Featherweight title against former WBA Featherweight king Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters (26-0-1 21 KO’s) in Las Vegas, The bout will be shown live on HBO in the US and on Box Nation here in the UK.
Having had only seven pro fights Vasyl Lomachenko is already a two weight World Champion and finds himself on most P4P top 10 lists, the Ukrainian boasting one of the greatest amateur records ever (396-1) with 2 Olympic gold medals and 2 world amateur championships under his belt its easy to see why promotor Bob Arum wasted no time letting him loose with the top men in both the Featherweight and Super Featherweight divisions, holding wins over the highly rated and current WBC 130lb king Garry Russell Jr and 2 time world champion Roman Martinez.

Hey Harold!: Lomachenko vs. Walters (HBO Boxing)
Walters comes in to the ring undefeated in 27 contests and holds wins over modern great Nonito Donaire and veteran champion Vic Darchinyan with a draw against WBA champion Jason Sosa the only blemish on his superb record, Walters will also hold a significant reach advantage over Lomachenko, aswell as being by far the biggest puncher “Hi-Tech” will have faced with 21 of his 26 wins coming inside the distance.
This bout is an intriguing clash between two men at the very top of their game, a classic boxer vs puncher contest to determine the top man in the Super Featherweight division,
Southpaw Lomachenko will look to keep Walters at mid range while slipping and creating angles to let his vast array of punches go, Walters i imagine will look to establish a strong jab and get himself in to a position to detonate his huge right hand.
Every now and again a fighter comes along with special attributes that can not be taught, this has been true throughout the years with fighters like Henry Armstrong, Wille Pep, Sugar Ray Robinson all the way up to the likes of Roy Jones Jr, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr, i believe in our current crop there are few who possess the natural ability to fight with pure instinct like the aforementioned names, but i believe Vasyl Lomachenko does (along with Guillermo Rigondeaux and Andre Ward), look for him to frustrate Walters throughout with fast combinations from awkward angles and great footwork en route to a unanimous 12 round decision.
A win over Walters will open up some huge opportunities for Lomachenko, with unification fights and a possible bout against rising star Mikey Garcia at lightweight, a catchweight blockbuster showdown with Manny Pacquiao has also been roumored which would see both fighters find a common ground much like Pacquiao did when he fought Oscar De La Hoya in 2008.
